The cost of living went down .3% in March - the largest decline since 1953. The
inflation rate had not dropped in any month since August 1965.
Britain recaptures South George Island with an air and sea assault.
British forces begin a total blockade of the Falkland Islands
After a three-hour meeting - President Reagan and House Speaker Thomas Tip
O’Neal Jr. fail to reach agreement on ways to reduce the record-high deficits
projected in Reagan’s new budget.
The U.S. suspends military and economic aid to Argentina and says it will
respond to British request for military aid. President Reagan accuses Argentina
of armed aggression and said it “must not be allowed to succeed.”
The Tribune Co. announces it will continue to publish the Daily News and is
prepared to invest more money in the paper of its 11 unions consent to contract
concessions.
In Arizona - Former U.S. Atty. Gen. Richard G.
Kleindienst is suspended from practicing law for a
year because he lied under oath about his role in an
insurance fraud.
Barbara Schantz, A Springfield, Ohio police officer
is suspended from her job after appearing nude in
the May issue of Playboy. Schantz said she
received $20,000 from the magazine and used the
money to help purchase a house.
Radio talks - President Reagan says with the sharp
interest rate drop this quarter, interest rates
shouldn’t be higher than 10%. He also defended his
proposal for income tax credits on tuitions and denounced as “freeloaders”
citizens who ducked an estimated $95 billion in 1981 income taxes by doing
business “off the books”
Sports - Trade - The Oakland Raiders acquire Greg Pruitt and Lyle Alzado.
Alzado is a former All-Pro defensive end and was instrumental in the rise of the

Music news - Almost a Led Zeppelin reunion as both John Paul Jones and
Jimmy Page are playing on Robert Plant’s first solo album. Phil Collins and Cozy
Powell lended drum support.
Television news - After 8 years, “Barney Miller” tapes its final show.
Although it ordered 6 episodes, after
only four airings, ABC-TV yanks “Police
Squad” off its Thursday night schedule.
Starring Leslie Nielson , the comedy
was a take-off of the successful movie
“Airplane.”

Music news -
The National Association of Record Merchandisers is given the first industry look
at the final packaging for the Compact Disc consumer digital audio disks, which
are expected to filter into world record stores next year. The 4 ½-inch laser-read
disk will be housed in a small clear, molded plastic case only slightly larger than
the disk itself. The disk will rest in a black plastic tray which is stackable with
similar trays; the case will be capable of storing 24 pages of liner notes or other
printed information.
“Night Flight” on the USA cable network is doing well. Regular features are “New
Wave Theatre,” a video artists series and “Take Off,” a magazine-type show that
opens every edition of “Night Flight.” “Take Off” is the only time “Night Flight” will
show video clips of artists rather than full-length programs on them. “Night Flight”
began as six hours per weekend and is now up to 12. Producers are Cynthia
Friedland and Stuart Shapiro and Jeff Franklin. The producers hope to transmit in
stereo - soon.
Radio news -
New York - WABC gets a 3.8 share during its final music days. WNBC sank to a
3.9 from a 4.5. WKTU’s 6.1 share from the fall of 1981 declined to a 4.5, while
rival WRKS slipped to 5.1 from 5.6 and WBLS gets a 5.9 share. Talker WOR-AM
is up to a 6.5 from a 6.2. WYNY-FM gets a 4.5 from a 4.0 and WNEW-FM inches
up to a 2.5 from 2.4. Country WHN-AM - 2.4 and Country WKHK-FM - 1.5.

Los Angeles - KIIS-FM is up to a 3.1 from a 2.1. KHTZ-FM is up to a 4.0 from
3.0. KIQQ-FM up to a 3.1 from 2.5. Mellow rock KNX-FM is up to a 3.2 from a
2.6, KROQ gets a 3.0 share from a 2.4. KMET is down to a 3.9 from a 4.5, KLOS
is down to a 3.8 from 4.7 last time. Country KHJ - 1.6 share. Country KLAC is
down to a 2.0 from a 2.7. Country KZLA-AM/FM gets a 3.1.
Chicago - WLS-AM gets a 4.5 - down from its 5.3 a year ago. WLS-FM - 3.6.
Country WMAQ-AM - down to a 3.9 from a 4.2. WJJD got a 1.6 in its last country
ratings. It’s now Music of Your Life. WLUP-FM - 4.2. AOR WMET-FM gets a 2.3
down from a 3.4.
CBS is bringing Mike Joseph’s “Hot Hits” top-40 format to WBBM-FM Chicago,
based on its success at WCAU-FM in Philly. BBM-FM is now soft rock.
