For instance, while the new steep charges of $185,000 to apply for a domain name could deter cyber-squatters, companies with well known trademarks worry that they may have to contend with series of copycat names like coke.paris or google.zambia….Nine months after the launch of New Twitter, the social media company is letting users know that the old version of Twitter will be completely eliminated “very, very soon.” The old version of Twitter always asked users to switch to the new version of Twitter, but today the message was changed, and it’s more urgent…. More people visit Google's network of websites than Facebook each month, but Facebook is killing the search company in categories that advertisers care most about: Time spent and pages viewed…..Google has launched a new, mysterious service called What Do You Love. It's a simple search box box, similar to the one on Google's homepage, but it returns results from over 20 different Google services, including Google Translate, Trends, YouTube, Maps, Groups etc. The results are presented in little boxes which can, in some cases, be expanded by clicking on the icon in the lower right corner; if you need even more results, you can always click the button in the upper right corner of the box and go directly to the chosen service…

Pandora, the Internet radio station, announced  it has reached 100 million listeners…. Google has announced its plans to launch a Google eBooks-optimized e-reader on July 17. Called the iriver Story HD, the e-book reader is designed to give users easy access to the 3 million free titles Google holds in addition to a few hundred thousand paid titles, with a price and design that is very similar to Amazon's Kindle….

Apple Stores Cloned In China - An American who lives in Kunming in southern Yunnan province said that she and her husband stumbled on three shops masquerading as bona fide Apple stores in the city a few days ago. She took photos and posted them on her BirdAbroad blog…. PC Sales Going Down - Sales of Microsoft Corp's flagship Windows software disappointed for the third straight quarter, taking the gloss off better-than-expected earnings that were aided by an unusually low tax rate…..Apple sold just 7.5 million iPods its most recent quarter. It was the lowest since the fall of 2005, when the iPod was just 4 years old. Unit sales fell 20% from a year ago and revenue from those sales dropped 15%. It's still a lucrative business for Steve Jobs & Co., bringing in $1.3 billion in sales over the past three months. But sales have been in a free-fall for the past three years….

 HD Radio – Not Good NewsRadio Shack has every one of its house-brand HD Radio units on clearance, if they are still in stock. This includes iPod Touch/iPhone dongles and the Auvio tuner (which, if you can still find one at the clearance price of $30, is a steal). This means Radio Shack is essentially out of the HD Radio business. A shame, since the Shack was one of the early supporters. It doesn't mean that the technology is dead, but it certainly isn't flourishing…

All content in the Store will be disabled and no longer available for download from the store…. Google Inc will buy phone hardware maker Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc for $12.5 billion to bolster adoption of its Android mobile software and compete with smartphone rival Apple Inc….The percentage of Internet users who are on social-networking sites continues to climb, according to a survey released Friday by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. In fact, it has doubled in the past three years, the report says, from about 29% in 2008 to 65% this year…

The music and media platform will be announced at Facebook’s f8 developer conference on September 22….The U.S. Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against AT&T seeking to block its $39 million merger with T-Mobile. The merger would create the largest wireless company in the United States, combining AT&T's 98 million customers with T-Mobile's 34 million users, for a total of 130 million subscribers…. Netflix has started to restrict its users from streaming more than one movie at a time as part of its price hike. The change could have a major effect on how families use Netflix. No longer can one person watch a movie from the iPad while the rest of the family watches another film on the Xbox, for example…

Netflix Troubles - Netflix subscribers threatened to flee in droves when the company whacked them with a surprise price hike, which kicked in this month.
