The rapper was sentenced in February to between 1-1/2  and 4-1/2 years in prison for a 1993 sexual assault on a woman in a Manhattan hotel room. He is free pending an appeal... Rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg will remain free on $1 million bail while he awaits his murder trial but the Dogg will be monitored electronically.... The late Selena’s “Dreaming of You” is in the national top-10. And outside the San Antonio Hard Rock Café – an unveiling of Selena memorabilia. She had performed at the restaurant’s grand opening in January...“Dateline NBC” will feature an interview with O.J. Simpson – his first TV interview. Apparently – O.J. has a pay-per-view event coming up – and this could be a chance to promote that. Known as the “chief-deputy” to the chairman of the board in Sinatra’s “Rat Pack,” Martin started out as a solo singer in records and radio. (He did a 15-minute late-afternoon show on WMCA in New York City in the late 40’s.)  Teaming up with Jerry Lewis, the pair was unstoppable in movies and as a night-club act from 1946-1956. As a solo artist, Martin scored on the charts during this period with huge hits on Capitol Records - hits like “Return To Me,” “That’s Amore,” “Memories Are Made of This” and “Volare.” After the pair split up in 1956, Martin continued his recording and movie career, often appearing in dramas such as “The Young Lions” in 1958, “Some Came Running” in 1959 and “Rio Bravo” in 1959. The late 50’s and early 60’s, saw Martin team with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop for several movies and nightclub appearances (esp in Las Vegas) as “The Rat Pack.”

But, at a Washington press conference, the chief executives of America Online, CompuServe and Prodigy release copies of a one-page letter they sent to Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, criticizing Microsoft’s arrangement, which only includes its on-line offering in the Windows 95 operating system. They said they would appeal to Congressional leaders to support a Justice Department investigation of the software giant’s proposed on-line service.  Microsoft says it is expecting to sell 30 million copies of “Windows 95” by the end of the year... Apple unveils three Power Macs that are lower in price. The Power Macintosh 7200, 7500 and 8500 will sell in the range of $1,700 to $4.700… Another hot public offering - Netscape this week! Interest is so high that the underwriters nearly doubled the asking price on the issue to $24 a share, then raised it to $28 that compares to a target price of $12 to $14 a share… Netscape’s $28 IPO offering turns into $74 - then retreats to $58.25 during its first day of trading…

It looks like an audio CD, but can carry video (DVD). Also, the new discs will be used as computer storage medium offering 10x the capacity of today’s CD-ROM’s…. AT&T says it will split into three companies – that it will spin off its equipment business and its trouble computer business to focus on its core communications services...  Disk-drive makers Seagate Technology Inc. and Conner Peripherals agree to merge in a stock swap valued at nearly $1 billion. The merged companies will create the world’s largest independent maker of disk drives with revenue of $7 billion and a third of the market.

December - Blockbuster Music begins testing the electronic retail business by teaming up with MTV and VH1 to sell music on AOL. You can access the site on AOL through the MTV Online and VH1 Online areas…NBC and Microsoft announce they will invest up to $100 million over the next several years in a new 24-hour news channel. NBC is getting rid of “America’s Talking” and in its place – this new channel not yet named. “AT” lasted only 17 months. The new channel will debut in the second quarter of 1996. ABC says it is launching an all-news channel – set to debut in 1997... The first wiretap on the Internet leads to three arrests on charges of illegally selling and manufacturing electronic devices and cellular telephone cloning.  Secret Service Agent Brian Gimlett tells a news conference that the government followed the alleged mastermind of the operation - Bernhard Bowitz, on the Internet, documenting his worldwide equipment sales... German authorities order CompuServe to shut down access to more than 200 Internet newsgroups deemed indecent and offensive. It’s the first case involving government censorship of a commercial online service. CompuServe reluctantly complies. Some of the newsgroups in question contain child pornography and other sexually explicit materials. The cutoff directly affects all 4 million CompuServe subs in the U.S. and 146 other countries. Some fear the action is a precedent.
